U.S. Territories Data Added to Health Equity Tracker
Atlanta, GA, August 09, 2021 – The Satcher Health Leadership Institute’s Health Equity Tracker has made updates to the platform to include data from United States Territories: Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa. Updates include changes to the national map to include interactive icons for the territories and the acquisition of additional data sources for population information. Together, these updates allow users to track data we have available on health outcomes.
An Important Note on Missing Data
The census bureau does not release population data for the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands in their ACS five-year estimates. The most recent reliable territory population numbers are from the 2010 census. Please note, we use these numbers when calculating the per 100k COVID-19 rates nationally and for all territory level rates.
